I’ve spent a good deal of my life trying to find the perfect audience.
I used to think that it was a given.
People would respond to what I was saying because I was telling them something that they liked.
Then, over time, I realized that what I’d said to them was just another way to sell ads.
And they would respond by saying, “I’d rather hear from you.”
But, the truth is, the only way to find out who’s interested in what you say is to listen to what they want to hear.
And it’s not always going to be the answer you think.
You may be the perfect target for a message about how important it is to take care of your body and mind, or how you’re not alone in your struggles.
But you won’t get what you want unless you listen.
The best audience in the world isn’t always your friends or relatives or coworkers, but rather, the people you’re most passionate about.
I was never as passionate about my family as I should have been.
But that’s exactly why I’m so good at finding audiences, because I’m constantly asking myself, What can I do to make this person happy?
It’s the question that motivates me every day, and I think it’s one of the most powerful ways to create a lasting impact.
The only way I can say that is to put myself out there and listen to the people who matter.
And the more I listen, the more confident I become about my chances to succeed.
